Each author will read a selection from their work, followed by Q&A with the audience moderated by Terry. Books will be for sale at the event, courtesy of Borderlands Books.

Rudolf “Rudy” von Bitter Rucker is an American mathematician, computer scientist, science fiction author, artist, and one of the founders of the cyberpunk literary movement. He is also the great-great-great-grandson of the philosopher G. W. F. Hegel. The author of both fiction and nonfiction, Rucker is best known for the novels in the Ware Tetralogy, the first two of which (Software and Wetware) both won Philip K. Dick Awards. Until its closure in 2014 he edited the science fiction webzine Flurb. His most recent book is Journals: 1990-2014.

Michael Blumlein is the author of The Movement of Mountain, X Y (made into a film), The Healer, Ageless, and the novella, The Roberts. as well as the award-winning story collection The Brains of Rats, and What the Doctor Ordered. Twice nominated for the World Fantasy Award and twice for the Bram Stoker Award, Blumlein received the ReaderCon Award, and has been short-listed for the Tiptree Award. In addition to writing, Dr. Blumlein is a practicing M.D and a faculty member at the University of California in San Francisco.

This event takes place at the American Bookbinders Museum, at 355 Clementina Street, off of 5th Street between Howard and Folsom. Entrance is on Clementina. Parking available on street (free) or at the 5th & Mission or 3rd & Folsom garages. The MUNI/BART stop closest is Powell Street.

MARIE BRENNAN will be reading from her new novel in the Lady Trent series, In the Labyrinth of Drakes. Brennan is the author of Midnight Never Come, and the other volumes in the Lady Trent series: A Natural History of Dragons, The Tropic of Serpents, and Voyage of the Basilisk

M. THOMAS GAMMARINO will be reading from his new novel, King of the Worlds. He is the author of Jellyfish Dreams and Big in Japan, and is the winner of the 2013 Elliot Cades Award for Literature in Hawaii.

As usual the moderator will be Terry Bisson.

HANNU RAJANIEMI was born in Finland, obtained his PhD in string theory at the University of Edinburgh and now works as a co-founder and CTO of HelixNano, a synthetic biology startup based in the Bay Area. He is the author of four novels including The Quantum Thief trilogy and the forthcoming Summerland, and several short stories.

DARYL GREGORY is an award-winning writer of genre-mixing novels, stories, and comics. His novels include Harrison Squared, Afterparty, Pandemonium, Raising Stony Mayhall, The Devil’s Alphabet, and the World Fantasy Award-winning novella We Are All Completely Fine, in development at the SyFy channel. His stories are collected in Unpossible and Other Stories.

It is a new year, and a new start for SF in SF because we have a brand new venue. Our first reading of 2016 will feature Cecelia Holland & Kim Stanley Robinson, and will be at The American Bookbinders Museum on Sunday, Jan. 17th.

The ABM is located at 355 Clementina, between 4th & 5th Street. The entrance on Folsom is NOT used. Clementina is a little alley between Howard and Folsom. There is inexpensive parking at 3rd and Folsom, or street parking (not metered on Sundays) if you can find it. It’s an easy walk down from the Powell Street BART station too.
