Litquake Goes Steampunk

October 3rd, 2008 · Comments Off on Litquake Goes Steampunk

OK folks, the arrangements are all confirmed. Our Litquake event will take place at the usual Variety Preview Room venue, the theme will be Steampunk, and we have a stellar line-up:

  • Kage Baker
  • Joe R Lansdale
  • Rudy Rucker
  • Richard Bottomes

And while you are there, don’t forget to look for a copy of Steampunk, the seriously wonderful anthology from Tachyon Publications edited by Ann and Jeff VanderMeer.

And that, of course, is Thursday October 9th. Doors open 7:00pm, readings begin at 8:00pm, and in the meantime there’s a cash bar, the proceeds for which go to the Variety Children’s Charity of Northern California who are letting us have their lovely room for free.

SFAC Gallery,
401 Van Ness Avenue
San Francisco, CA 94102

Science fiction author Pat Murphy will give a reading from The City, Not Long After a fantastical post apocalyptic novel set in San Francisco, which examines the radical power of art, anarchy and creativity when faced with the threat of totalitarianism and war. The reading will be followed by open conversation with the author.

A Grass Mound (With Kind Regards to Utopia) is a sculpture and project by Anthony Marcellini which acts as a stage for a series of weekly events centered around the Utopian potential of creative expression. This project is taking place as part of Immediate Futures an exhibition at the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery, from September 6-October 18, 2008. Tachyon Birthday Party

September 17th, 2008 · Comments Off on Tachyon Birthday Party

Please join us on Sunday, September 21st, to help Tachyon Publications celebrate their 13th year of publishing smart science fiction!

Party begins at 2:00 PM, ends about 6:00 PM

With authors, Terry Bisson, Kage Baker, Dick Lupoff, and other special guests! There will be cake!

The event also will have the presentation of the Emperor Norton Award, a San Francisco Bay area specific award given each year for “extraordinary invention and creativity unhindered by the constraints of paltry reason.” The award is named after and commemorates the memory of Joshua Norton I, Emperor of the United States of America and Protector of Mexico, and is represented by a bust of Norton sculpted by Paul Groendes. The physical award is called a Joshua. A juried award, with two awards – one to a single work of SF/F/H or to an author in these genres; the second to any creation, creator, or service relating to those genres.

An SF/F independent publisher located in Potrero Hill, Tachyon Publications has been in business for 13 years, and we are celebrating!

Food, drink, prizes, readings, and fun at Borderlands Books at 866 Valencia
