We’ve posted revised details for the Neil Gaiman reading, especially the fact that the ticket price includes a signed copy of The Graveyard Book.

Our next movie night takes places tomorrow (Wednesday) and will feature two well-loved favorites:

• Galaxy Quest; and
• Raiders of the Lost Ark

Lounge and cash bar open at 6:30pm. The movies start at 7:00pm. There will be a 15-20 minute intermission between the films.

Due to time constraints, Neil Gaiman will not be signing at the event. Extra signed copies of The Graveyard Book, as well as signed copies of a limited number of his backlist titles will be on sale at the event.

Japantown has two parking lots; One on Fillmore @ Post, the other is on Post @ Webster. Free secure bicycle parking in both lots. Some of the Japantown businesses will validate parking: Validated parking is $2.75 for the first 3 hours.

Several MUNI lines serve the theater, including the 3 Jackson, 22 Fillmore and 38 Geary.

Comics creators Mark Millar and Tony Harris will be holding a signing and party for their new project, War Heroes, at Isotope Comics on Saturday August 23rd. The signing begins at 5:00pm and morphs into the party from 8:00pm onwards. More details from the Isotope web site.

We are delighted to announce that Rudy Rucker has joined the panel for our Litquake event on October 9th. Other guests may be added later.

Also the event will start at 7:30pm rather than the usual 7:00pm. And the theme of the evening will be Steampunk.

We have added an extra reading in October as a result of our participation in San Francisco’s fabulous Litquake event. It will be on the evening of Thursday October 9th, and thus far we have Joe Lansdale and Kage Baker lined up. More authors may be added. Watch this site.

We can also confirm the line-ups for our normal program in October and November. We have:

As usual the event will take place at The Variety Preview Room, 582 Market St. @ Montgomery (1st floor of The Hobart Building). Join us from 6:00pm for a 7:00pm start.

While fiction and fantasy abound with an animated cast of automatons ranging from evil to endearing, today’s real robots are building our cars, defusing roadside bombs, and vacuuming up the dog hairs while we’re at work. Find out what David Calkins, one of America’s most respected robotics authorities, has to say about the past, present, and future of artificial intelligence. Among his numerous titles, David is president of the Robotics Society of America, founder of the ROBOGames, and co-founder and president of ComBots – the country’s largest organizer of robot combat. So if you’ve got questions about robots, this is clearly the guy to ask. Oh, and David will also be bringing some very special guests with him: ROBOTS!
